MacD

MacD Racing Partners formed when Mark “MacD” MacDougal was convinced by little sister Sue Murphy that local dirt track racing was exactly what he needed. It took just one trip to Carolina Speedway back in 2004 to figure out that she was right. Shortly after that MacD bought into the team and now shares ownership with the MacD, Murphy and Scott families.

First and foremost, MacD is a huge race fan. Because of that he chooses to sponsor some of his favorite local race teams. It gives our family great pride to put our name on the side of other race team’s cars.

We started with a few small sponsorships back at Carolina Speedway but since moving to I-77 Speedway our family of team sponsorships has grown. The following teams are awesome, family based teams and their friendship and good sportsmanship makes it easy for us to be friends and fans.

Donnie Tanner

Donnie Tanner - Limited Late Model #22

Donnie doesn’t know what hit him. He and his family were competing in the Open Wheel Modified division at I-20 Speedway in 2007 when the MacD team invaded the speedway. About midway in the season we had picked out favorites in each of the divisions and really liked Donnie. It turned out that he and his family (lovely wife, Elizabeth, son McKinley and daughter Julia) lived near Greg and Sue in Ridgeway! We helped Donnie with some touring events in 2007 and when I-20 Speedway closed for good at the end of the 2007 season the decision was made to help the Tanner team move to I-77 Speedway with the MacD logo on the side of a new late model. Our teams grew closer over the season and Donnie is now a full member of the MacD family, not just a sponsored team. I could not be more proud. Donnie finished a strong second in points in his first year in the new car at a new track. Look for Donnie to just get better and better!

Jeff Graves

Jeff Graves - Limited Late Model #Y-44

Jeff has been a long time competitor in the area and it was his exciting driving and, frankly, his equally exciting wife, Hope, that caught our attention. Hope is as much a character as Jeff is a quiet gentleman. We met the Graves racing at Carolina Speedway and decided that we wanted to be part of their team. MacD Racing has been with Jeff for a few years now and he has moved from Street Stock to Crate Late Models and now to the Limited Late Models for 2009. We don’t normally sponsor cars that compete against our own teams and Donnie already races in the Limited Late Model class, but we are big Jeff Graves fans and we decided it was something we wanted to do. Now we just need to keep these boys apart on the race track

Chris Bell – Sportsman Crate #92

We met the Bell family when we started competing there again in 2005. They were our pit neighbors and we quickly became good friends. Chris is a talented young driver who competes in the Sportsman Crate and Street Stock divisions. He has raced the past two seasons at Lancaster Speedway, earning some wins! We don’t get to see Chris race as much as we would like but hope that with the Crate Sportsman coming to I-77 in 2009 that we will see Chris, Buster, Katharine and Amanda again soon!

Ray Dockery

Ray Dockery - Crate Late Model #8D

Ray Dockery is the 2007 Crate Late Model division champion at I-77 Speedway. We are thrilled to be part of Team 8D Motorsports for 2009. Ray is a long time competitor and our team has been a fan for years. Ray and his team helped make 2008 an excited time for everyone in the “Front Row Crew” at I-77 Speedway. Sue and Greg stepped up to help Ray as a tire sponsor for one of the big races and after that we talked as a team and decided that we would come back in 2009. When the opportunity for Ray to take partial ownership of his team came up over the off season we decided it was a good time to get on board. We could not be more pleased than to be with this very fast, very excited team.

Travis Caviness

Travis Caviness - Pure Stock 4 #83

Travis is a very young driver just getting started in racing. We are very pleased to be part of the Caviness Racing team for 2009. When Travis first took to the track two years ago he was cautious and just trying to get a feel for the race car. Not anymore. He has already claimed his first feature win and has figured out how to get the Caviness Racing #83 around the track and to the front in a hurry. Travis’s mom, Marcia and his dad, Steve are his biggest fans and are with him every week. We hope they will get to race at I-77 some this year so we can enjoy seeing this young man win.
